This record-setting deal sets a positive precedent for female broadcasters who too often are paid 15 percent less - and, in smaller markets, as much as 50 percent less! - than their male peers. Couric, deemed the most popular person at NBC News, had the leverage of being wooed by syndicators and other networks.
