Today's Question:

Bartender Bob:  I'm a former analyst who wants to move into the PR world. I'm completing my MBA and have no idea if I should pursue a corporate, agency, or small business PR position. Any advice?

Dear Wide Open to Career #3

Regardless of the pasture you choose, the grass will mow your ass on any given day. Corporations will fill your wallet yet empty your soul. PR agencies will inspire your creative side, but forget that you have a life or family. And, small business will ask that you wear six hats and tap dance to boot.

It boils down to what motivates you and what you're made of. If you need security and support, go corporate. If you need thrills, spills and deals, go agency. If you need to create something from scratch and build a legacy (and are willing to sweat big beads), go small biz.

Whatever you decide, keep a bottle of Jack nearby.
